Cool Trees

Prescott is its own little ecosystem, so the plants and animals you see here can be quite different from what you're used to (especially if you've grew up in - say - the swamps of Louisiana).  In this episode we call out some of our very favorite trees, which we were delighted to discover when we moved here.

hello hello hello hello peeps this is randall and i am diane bro they’re a prescott pickle lady that’s right and uh we are your local husband and wife team here in prescott um ready willing and able to help you to serve you uh amazing customer service if i say so myself but anyway here to talk about cool trees yeah this was something you know now that we’re kind of spring has sprung we’re heading into summer all of our beautiful trees here you know we’re from the deep south yeah so we have now been exposed to trees we’ve never seen never heard of we’re from the land of oak trees and spanish moss cypress and all that pine trees just plain old pine trees so when we moved here we were like wow yeah what is this tree that’s just getting leaves and blossoming and completely different floor totally different so we just love it and one of my favorite is the smoke tree smoke trees are so cool so cool you won’t find them down i thought it was the strangest thing i remember the first time i’m driving through prescott lakes yeah they take us on smoketree and i was like why is this what do you smoke but we actually have trees here and they call them smoke trees and the reason why is a certain time of year now it’s basically now right now right now we’re in june yep this is it this is it you can kind of see why they call them smoke trees it’s like uh they’ve got this sort of fluffy thing fluffy little flowers looks like the leaves are kind of purple um and they’ll start leafing out first and then these little puffs of this little flower comes out and it looks like little cups of smoke so in prescott lakes one of the main drags on the way to the club is called smoke tree and it’s lined with these smoke trees so now i get it now again connection yeah and um so those are really unusual beautiful trees i’ve never seen them where i’m from so i appreciate that yeah i don’t know how far i feel you can go uh where how far out smoke trees are whether that’s uh yeah i don’t know not to look at it but they’re big here yeah they’re very big here very big here another one that’s uh really cool is the quaking aspen yeah beautiful trees beautiful and the winds blow and the leaves they literally quick and shaky and it’s just but it’s just beautiful to see the breeze go through them and it’s all leafy and green and you know both that one and the um smoke tree they will lose their leaves yeah but then it all comes back in the spring and summer and it’s just beautiful and of course an aspen when it when it loses its leaves it’s beautiful in the fall it’s just beautiful yeah it’s got that silver bark yeah that’s really cool i like a good aspen not a good good aspirin everybody likes a good um yeah i get it the other tree that we would uh we would call out is called the red leaf plum what’s your favorite favorite yeah also purpley who are you talking to this is this is my very favorite and it’s a beautiful tree and it goes through very different phases yes um so most of the year it it kind of looks like the leaves are made of like a red purple leather almost or velvet it’s like so descriptive yeah they’re beautiful beautiful trees just sort of normally yes uh but when they blossom in the early spring they look like cherry blossoms they do it does it looks like you’re in washington dc washington amongst the cherry blossoms that’s true bright bright pink light pink beautiful yeah and they almost look like a snow cone yeah absolutely it’s stunning so and there they are fruit trees you know what else i love them we didn’t talk about this but i love it’s called a desert willow oh okay and sometimes a desert willow is more it’s usually a bush but some of the uh landscapers will train it to grow into a tree and that takes very little water it’s in the willow family but it makes beautiful purple and pink flowers yeah all throughout the summer so it’s a little different than your traditional weeping willow which is what i’m used to so i’m all about the desert willow yeah yeah one of the things you look forward to in coming here is learning all the local flora and fauna the different kinds of trees they have here we’ve done an episode before on birds and the crazy kinds of birds that we get here a lot of birds coming through so there’s a great variety yeah uh and just taking the time to learn more about the local nature and yeah and you know uh citrus doesn’t do so well here citrus trees because we do get kind of chilly willy in the winter yeah but i tell you what cherries plums um what are some of the others well the red leaf plums we mentioned yeah before they are edible and they’re actually pretty good yeah apples apricots yeah apples not a problem not a problem all those and those two are just as equally beautiful so anyway we’ve had fun kind of learning about all the different trees and enjoying them it’s something we’ve never got to experience down in the south so here it’s like a whole new world people a whole new world you can learn all kinds of new things here yeah and expand your horizons and isn’t that what it’s all about get yourself some cherries or some red plums aspen grab yourself and grab grab and ask rub it out and grab this mask i don’t know if there’s anything you can eat no but it’s so pretty i like the way it shakes though i like that shaking the shaking aspen anyway okay so yeah i can tell you we’re heading in that direction we’re trying to connect it together yeah i get it it’s not easy being a comedian folks not easy being a realtor either if you’re looking for information about real Essence Restaurant

In this episode we cover another great restaurant, right in the heart of Chino Valley - an up-and-coming area just north of Prescott.  Don't make the drive before you make reservations, because this place is very popular, and with good reason.  Fine dining, fine cocktails, and scrumptious desserts await.

hello hello hello hello peeps good morning good morning folks to my fellow preschootonians yeah and to all of our people maybe preschool tony and one of the babies right correct hopefully chris catonia and one of these i like that i like that we welcome you here with the preschool pickle lady diane bro my name is randall i am the skunk pig not just just the sidekick the pickle he keeps referring to him i don’t yeah i just spilled on myself don’t do that i know that wasn’t good another restaurant review people like our restaurant review so we thought we’d hit it up here’s one we actually went there a while ago yeah it’s so good so good and it’s yum yum yum yum yum yum and it’s actually in chino valley yep uh so for those of you who don’t know chino valley is uh it’s about a 20 minute drive 30 minute drive 30 minutes i’d say more 30. yeah 30. it depends on if you’re driving or me tran she’s the faster driver just in case you’re wondering well i got things to do yeah i understand so uh chino valley and then the name of the restaurant is essence so essence has been around now for i think a couple of years um they’re kind it was a while before we could get there because it’s hard to get reservations yeah they take reservations and they are they are out so you wanna you wanna plan ahead a little bit uh but it is that we went with uh two other couples and we loaded ourselves into the pickle van in the pickleball it was great the drive there and back was probably half the fun amazing food so it’s a great place to go for a special occasion so if you’ve got a special birthday or anniversary um make that reservation now yeah so you can get in um it’s got a nice little ambiance yeah very nice ambiance the food is just spectacular it is really spectacular i would put this in the category of fine dining dining experience this is a fine dining yeah yeah and uh really interesting uh entrees they are changing it up all the time uh one of the things i think is kind of cool that their their menu is organized by uh land sea and air oh yeah yeah so air is chicken all right so here i guess it’s a bird i have any other kind of birds i guess it would be under air and uh i think that the thing that really sets it apart is their c-section their their seafood he loves it and they’ve got what does she say that comes wrapped in a banana uh there’s a sea bass oh yeah they will wrap it in banana leaves oh my god really unique the chef honestly don’t you feel the chef just puts his heart into it it’s a family enterprise yeah it’s a family and i mean the heart and soul you can feel it yeah this is their baby this is their child and they really love it you feel the love you do and they will you they’ll come around and say hello to everyone it’s kind of an old style yeah family enterprise in that regard it’s delicious absolutely it’s really it’s you know worth a little drive make your reservations like i said way ahead uh read the menu ahead of time yeah it’s it’s just great desserts the desserts are desserts are amazing uh and they mix that up they’ve got the normal fare but uh they’ll always have something special uh in the dessert section cocktails amazing uh their own creations yeah uh blackberry sangria oh yeah i love that uh there was a uh and mule i think it was yeah um yeah changing out with the seasons um i got a kiwi mojito i think more of a summer thing yeah um so look for that really really well worth it so we just wanted to give a shout out to ezreal um and we can’t wait for you to come and try it out yeah and for any of you locals get your name on the list get out there get out there support our local businesses that’s what it’s all about that’s what it’s all about feel the love yeah let’s have a good time again people be kind support local businesses yeah chino valley is an area of big growth um yes growing every day every month and uh i think essence is one of those anchor kind of things they’re going to be talking about oh i remember it was just essence so yeah we cannot say enough good things about it yeah we love it we love it we love it so we just couldn’t wait to share with you if you want to find out an experience that’s right lessons all right if you are looking for information if you need help buying or selling a home here in prescott don’t forget to look up us pickle411.com is our information site whether you are buyer seller or somewhere in between information that you desire is waiting free for you that you desire whether it’s a real estate markets um events restaurants we kind of cover it all we sure do and um and we have so much fun doing it we do we have a good time doing it we’d like to share our wealth of information wealth of information all right so on that note my friends we’d like to say au revoir and uh we hope that uh your week coming up is wonderful all right have a good day bye

La Bruzza’s

We've said it before: Prescott does great Italian.  There are half a dozen wonderful Italian restaurants in town, but this is one of our very favorites.  If you see us there, make sure to hit us up for some wine.

that’s good yeah it’s helpful yeah sometimes you get a little tired and you throw back to new orleans or texas i know where i am yeah it’s good today we know where we are we’re here in prescott arizona talking to you about one of our very favorite restaurants cannot wait i’m getting ready to take some clients there yeah we’re going yep we’re so excited it’s called la bruce does a great job with italian uh italian food uh we’ve done a wine down before about italian food in general uh labruza’s is one of the very best uh kind of less uh less formal than so many other places uh got a lot of white wicker and uh i love it they play dean martin frank sinatra yeah i mean you’re to feel like you’re in a little italian eatery somewhere in new york you know like a mom and pop mom and pop very much red and white check you know just like old italian style mama’s restaurant yeah they do not have a look license so you bring your own wine or liquor and there is no corkage no mortgage fee so uh just being the deep class a people that we are we usually bring a box of wine and when people snicker i go around and i i give people free glasses one and they change their money they change their mind if you get some good boxed wine you can’t just saying yeah so it’s lovely amazing salads they come to the table this giant salad for everybody and the dishes they have are just amazing i mean i always get the veal parmesan veal parmesan chicken parm they’ve got these great seafood yeah they just have some good italian seafood yeah uh ravioli some really good i mean of course your lasagna i mean you name it yeah i can’t think of one thing that isn’t good there yeah traditional italian fair traditional very well done by a family-owned restaurant listening to dean martin and drinking your boxed wine drinking your box spot right you know those of you with a more sophisticated palette yeah you can bring whatever kind you want to bring whatever you want the lady comes with the glasses she pops the cork she they don’t even charge you for it nope it’s lovely and it’s just a very charming little atmosphere and a lot of fun so if you go there for a birthday you’re gonna have a great time no reservations though so yeah no reservations although if you have a very big group you might want to call ahead make sure they know you’re coming and they will try to accommodate you we had uh one time we did a birthday party there and right before we showed up there was another big group who was kind enough to show up without calling in advance so we ended up sitting around and drinking wine with our group yeah we kind of did yeah well it’s been a little sloppy it got a little sloppy yeah but it was fun we had a great job we had a great time i don’t i don’t know if others around us thought we were we thought we were highly amusing highly amusing oh and desserts dessert try the oh yeah cannoli is yes outstanding so if you are new here to press kit or even if you’ve been here you’ve never heard of it you’ve got to got to try labruzas i can’t believe i still run across people who have been i know i can’t believe that i can’t it’s kind of an interscript it’s in kind of a little strip mall yep on iron springs yeah yeah so anyway no reservations just show up and keep it open at 4 30 get in there yeah uh if you go at seven you’ll walk right you walk right in all the way yeah we do have the early bird special here so lots of people get there early but i don’t know if they have a special because it’s not as special you’re right it’s just you know early birders yeah if you’re not into dinner at 4 30 you might want to show up a little bit later miss the crowd just part of prescott just part impressive very true that is part of prescott life it is but i got used to it i love it but anyway so please try it la bruces bring your finest wine or box find this box of wine you can find whatever you want to bring it’s all good yeah it’s all good in the Religion in a city like Prescott is different from religion in Rug Rat communities focused primarily on raising children.  In this episode, we discuss the role of religious groups in the local community and the adult social scene.

hi folks hello peeps randlyn diambro here here with pickle lady prescott arizona we’re so happy to be here this evening your real estate agents at large that’s right at large we’re talking about everything that is prescott whether it’s real estate whether it’s restaurants whether it’s javelina page so that we we will we cover it all so in this little topic we’d like to cover religion religion and religious groups religious groups i love prescott arizona um they are very open they have all kinds of groups here that welcome everyone from all walks of life we have the catholic church we have the jewish synagogues we have the non-denominational yeah non-denominational churches community groups of all kinds but what makes the religious groups in prescott a little different than in other cities is a lot of time religion is about raising children in that religion so i was you know i was surprised at how many questions we get about religious groups here at prescott yeah i still don’t know if anyone has ever asked us about schools here never we we get maybe a hand maybe twice a year with questions about schools yeah but mostly because we are a retirement town people are calling about you know tell me a little bit about the religious community yeah that’s very social a community connection thing it’s really not about church and the building per se it’s more about what is the community outreach through different groups and sometimes it’s just social activities with people common faith or close enough [Music] all very open and loving and welcoming and you can get involved in a lot of social outreach we have a few uh non-denominational uh christian churches that well in texas they call them mega churches because well they’re huge yes i don’t know if they’re as big as they are in the city of houston i know everything is bigger in texas yeah everything’s bigger in texas everything’s bigger even the religions even the that’s religions here that the communities may be smaller but they’re very active uh you know we see people that different churches will have different uh uh logos or decals or whatever and you’ll see the cars and everything and yeah it’s it’s a it’s a going thing but i mean i think the big thing for me is total acceptance yeah absolutely of all religions of all walks of life yeah um nobody’s really hardcore here we’re all pretty accepting and loving and happy to reach out to help others and that’s what it’s all about people right that’s right especially as we get older and we’re retirement age right we’re reaching the shooting it shut up we’re reaching we’re heading into the show so it’s all about service to others kindness to others uh love towards others and honestly i’ve never felt anything other than love and acceptance here in prescott absolutely no matter what persuasion you are religious persuasion um yeah absolutely now that the churches are active so you know if you’re used to the kind of church where people go and you know they kneel and pray and then they stand up and pray and they kneel and pray and then they do the sign of the cross and leave maybe not be for you because these people actually get in the community they do food drives and all kinds of service activities and social activities it’s more about the activity it’s feel good religion feel good feel good religion i think it’s a great reflection on the city absolutely 100 so we wanted to say to those of you thinking about prescott we have it all here we have all we cover all religious bases all religious backgrounds yeah and we are very welcoming and accepting of all those and there’s a place for you and there’s a place for you to provide service to others uh you’ll love it we love it so good to us so anyway we just thought we’d kind of share that with you in case you were having any questions yeah and i apologize that it took us this long to mention you know churches and synagogues and things like that we got it when i was just kind of thinking it was one of those school things we got a few calls we had a call about synagogues and yeah we had a call about churches not too long ago and so yeah we should just tell people yeah people pray here and you know they worship here and they we got you covered whatever you are probably you’ll find it if you’re into the god thing we got you covered if you look for information the place to get is pickle411.com that is our free information site whether you are a buyer of homes a seller of homes or you just want to go to church you can check it out at pickle411 you will find the information you need there to get yourself plugged in locked in locked loaded ready to fire and sending on your way that’s right and we are happy to help you and uh guide you on your path absolutely so anyway it’s uh something what are the neat attributes of preston we got some good stuff going here people so come on in join us come visit us give us a call take care have a good evening bye

good morning folks good morning folks this is randall and diane bro she’s the prescott pitbully here in prescott arizona we’re realtors and we talk about a lot of other stuff we’re coming at you come on that’s right my red shoe i have a really cute red shoes coming at you uh we are the uh husband and wife duo here in prescott arizona we are uh local realtors here happy to represent you as a buyer and as a buy as a seller and as it turns out as a drinker too and it’s a drinker yeah one of the things that’s really big impressive we wanted to well you probably knew this already we wanted to share is happy hours are big here happy hours are huge happy hours are big so huge cheeseburger and press get like to go to dinner early so the idea of starting to drink at three that’s like right in line sure you know it’s like why not most cities they have a drink at five why’s seven this is a retirement town yeah so i feel like you need five if you’re retired you should go enjoy happy hour and then have a lovely dinner yeah that’s what it’s all about but there’s reason they call it happy hour because you get you know your voice your voice correct it’s always changing i’m i’m constantly evolving i’m trying to stay one one step ahead is that right yeah that’s what i’m doing well good luck with that good luck yeah but we’ll try so uh think about happy hours since you get the same uh great great cocktails uh appetizers whatever they have but it’s you know they get a special deal sometimes you get things that you can’t get any other time and there’s nothing wrong with that yeah and there are a lot of restaurants here that do it the problem with uh happy hours is you decide kind of spur the moment we tend to be spurring a moment right i feel happy i want to go someplace that has to happen true where can i go where can we go where can i go i don’t know mr bro well we have just just the thing for you i have completely this is so obnoxious the seventh grade great seven can you read it seventh grade happy hours and prescott i think we’ve already hit happy hour personally that’s why we can’t so there we go so i will appear not i’ll put it i’ll put a link down below so what we’ve done is we compiled seven of what we thought were really good happy holidays some of the better yeah they’re amazing prescott prescott is jumping yeah with happy hours why why did i pick seven why do you think that i don’t i could only fit seven on the chart oh okay yeah so the constraints of the chart itself all right okay well i appreciate your effort yeah we’ve got some great ones so uh uh superstition metering augments merchants trees uh plastic brewing cold grill yes and county seat was this tell me [Music] yeah so you have a little a little calendar here it’ll tell you any day of the week you know the the hour of the day what which of these quite deeply uh which of these is is experiencing happy hour so at the last minute you decide you know what i should be happier than i am check the chart see who’s doing happy hour and you can go happier than i just wanted to just a little project we wanted to let you know about it and we just thought about we’re like wow you know we have so many clients that come in and we’re like hey you are trying this happy or this one or this one or this one and we thought hey you gotta put them all together got to put them all together and do a wine down about it so that you guys i bet you uh the meadery also has a happy hour that’s that’s just right superstition they’re number one my favorite i would have mentioned them oh yeah i did oh yeah you did oh okay sarcasm will not help you here yeah that’s right just try it yeah they have a great one they have uh half off beans and ciders yeah their meats are amazing right that’s on the side yeah yeah yeah yeah we had a great time did a flight of maids yeah fantastic great great place i have a friend back in louisiana b calvert shout out to you who still talks about the metering here in preston how wonderful it was so anyway uh we thought you know what let’s sit down and talk about our top seven happy hours so uh lest you ever think that uh price gets you some sleepy old little retirement town not so yeah we just we’re kicking we just start at two o’clock in the afternoon we’re kicking we do start a little earlier um because dinner time is 4 30 here but we’re done and then you have a great night after that you get you’re in bed by eight but you’ve had a great time and that’s what it’s all about she gets more traction out of our happy hours so this is our way of communicating to the world what’s happening when so we can coordinate better correct there you go so we thought we would share this wealth of information with you our fellow preschootonians and those Cocky’s Chicken & Brew

Don't mean to brag, but when you are the first point of expansion for a restaurant with chicken fingers that are this good... well, you get a little cocky.  Add some Southern-style catfish and a cold Kilt Lifter, and life just gets better.

you’re the pickle lady prescott arizona i am the pickle lady you’re not quite sitting here with piglets oh here i thought you said we are the pickle lady no we’re not the pickle nevermind i’ve been known to dress up as the pickle lady but not in public i have a pair of green pumps all right okay let’s stop no stop starting over let’s not do the visual of that we may lose followers here to talk about another restaurant maybe not as traditional as some of the other restaurants that we uh that we have talked about before but it was rapidly became one of our very favorites we’re so excited we’re so excited we as i say we are the number two franchise in the country it started in omaha nebraska number two prosecute arizona and it’s called cheese chicken actually it’s called cocky’s chicken and bruise chicken and brew okay so yeah this is um we’re always on the look up the bros are always looking out for the latest the best chicken fingers we can find love chicken fingers prescott really yeah the best chicken fingers i could find was the grocery stores yes but this my friends oh we’re so excited oh my god and as you know people who’ve worked with me that’s my my key phrase i’m so excited yeah that’s right i really do get excited yeah um so randall’s like he kept circling around uh i think there’s going to be a new place coming up right after 69 it’s up on the hill right in front of home depot and we had to every time we took a drive with our dogs can we drive by that restaurant i want to see what’s coming sure anyway they are open much to our delight it is a cocky’s chicken chicken and brewery and it is probably the best chicken fingers we’ve ever had fried catfish you can also get roasted chicken yeah you can they have what they call bone in chicken we just go right for them yeah i guess that’s just regular chicken we go right for the chicken tea the chicken tenders catfish the cat they have a southern style uh catfish which is the uh uh cornmeal yeah just like in the south and it is delicious it’s just absolutely delicious so coffees the chicken tenders you can get some great french fries you can get some onion rings with it but they oh fried okra but they also have a special sauce that is divine sauce is really good but they also have several other yeah the other one i really liked was uh mango habanero oh yeah that was good cheers to mango habanero that was good that was good stuff good stuff yeah so it’s for the salad chicken what they call uh onion petals onion kettles yeah onion petals they have okra uh mac and cheese the science are very good coleslaw yeah you name it and and they have it in there they in fact they have a bar you can go in and just drink if you want you can go through the drive-through as well um whatever we like to we’ve done both we’ve enjoyed both um the juiciest chicken tenders you ever want to have so they they have a chicken deluxe sandwich he is still talking about this yet to try but it sounds delicious so they put their chicken tenders on a hamburger bun with bacon and cheese on it yeah i can’t imagine that he cannot wait to try we just get the regular chicken tenders but this is how you know when you’re getting older excited wow it’s like our first date i can’t wait to meet her it’s more about wow those chickens are so nice well i just got to tell you before we moved to prescott we lived in an air there was a place called tailgaters and they had the most delicious chicken fingers at least but i think this beats them they do they absolutely do i agree so i have missed them for a while i’ve been waiting for a place to open and made decent uh chicken fingers and you know something again so i mean is he looking to fall in love again no now it’s all about a good chicken gender you know in the olden days it was all like my heart is pitter-pattering i can’t wait to see her i can’t wait to see him you know no not so much now it’s about a good chicken yeah you know she doesn’t complain when i bring home some chicken tenders for her she’s very excited about that very excited so there you go so you know this chicken tunas are really good yeah it’s good stuff it’s good stuff i have chicken chicken so as i i was wondering about the whole bar thing we were in the restaurant oh by the way it used to be a burger king the worst burger king i’ve ever been to in my life such a trader it is uh so don’t let that throw you yeah when you go it’s a great you know they have a window you can get your cocky’s chicken to go that’s fine but inside is it’s nice yeah it’s not bad at all so for all of you locals please make sure you hit cocky’s chicken yeah for those of you who are coming here we can refer you to some good uh we don’t oh i said it again yeah you did and so that’s the place to go we love it in fact it’s so good i’m like you know what i think once a week i wouldn’t have a cheat day and i’m going to cocky’s chicken cocky’s chicken yeah i was in the restaurant and i saw uh the local brew that’s really popular here is kilt lifter it’s a scottish ale mm-hmm and go get some cocky’s chicken and some dope lifter yeah yeah you know it’s weird to see a franchise like that you know with with a liquor license but they make it work and i appreciate that yeah absolutely i’m all for it okay all right my friends so if you need to reach randall and i The Return of the Elks Theater

After two long years, the historic Elks Theater - a Prescott treasure - opens its "big" doors once again with a rockin' cover band. If you want to feel the earth... move... under your feet, this is the place.

hello and good morning hello peeps this is randall and diambro your husband and wife team real estate team here in prescott arizona lovely prescott arizona i am also the pickle lady you can’t [Music] i know and you’re going to have a hole through oh okay i’m learning the green screen technology it’s very high tech you’d be surprised how high-tech green screen really is now i’m going to keep the yelling pickle myself it’s a lot of rules and regulations at any time it’s really hard for me because i’m more of a spontaneous performer oh you got that yodeling pickle nailed though yeah i do i’m a spontaneous performer and so it’s really hard for me to follow direction anyway speaking of performances is that a transition or what that’s a great transition yeah good job here to talk about the elks theater the alex is back baby we are having the time of our lives the elk theater is a lovely very old-fashioned theater historic historic beautiful right near the square of downtown prescott and for the past two years because of covet no shows nothing it’s been very very sad yeah um but recently they reopened to the mass crowd and we were so excited to be one of the first ones to attend uh cover band called tapestry uh that covers carol king and we had the time of our lives it was amazing and so the the old-fashioned theater opened up every city it was sold out folks sold out shows so that was so the elks theater has uh well i’ve been to two venues i think there might be others there’s a there’s what they call the crystal room which is on the third floor and that’s relatively small it’s like a small bank smaller more intimate more intimate yeah a more intimate music experience so they’ve they’ve been having uh performances there for a while uh it was completely shut down four times and they started doing the crystal room i guess you know there was a limit on the number of people like that i i don’t know uh but you know it became a regular thing the crystal room yeah um it wasn’t until tapestry yeah that they opened the big theater now the big theater is big it’s big uh they opened the whole thing and i think it was it was backed i mean people it was packed we were so excited to rejoin the the wonderful world that was oh yeah before covid and um what was really great was uh when you go to see a show at the elks they kind of have little mini dance floors so couples can get up and dance as the cover bands play and i don’t know who that couple was but you were amazing it just made my heart just so full um i was just so happy to see this couple i mean they were amazing they were good right they were part of the show i thought so too i mean i don’t know who they were but they were amazing they were just a regular couple here to see the show they’ve got to dance and be like moving dancing i mean who doesn’t love her okay i mean my kids grew up on listening to um yeah beautiful beautiful yeah cheers to that i listened to it it’s a great song by the way if anybody hasn’t heard that listen to beautiful if it’s been a while i know but it might be a while listen to it it’s a great pick me up and set your day on the right track but anyway yeah okay okay don’t you’re on the back don’t don’t sing i’m just yeah don’t think don’t sing i’m not gonna sing okay anyway um so they had a a a really lovely couple who got up and they sang i mean they didn’t sing they danced and it was lovely and it was like oh my gosh now i remember what it was like yeah several years ago pre-coveted how uh the music scene was when you go to see a concert at the elks so we are like blacked out with performances for everything we’re like okay we are uh out there we’re going we’re going to an eagles cover band yeah we go to jazz night where they have different it’s just been great it’s been wonderful and a lot to look forward to got a pile of tickets over there all the things it’s amazing so it’s it’s good to know that in prescott the music scene here is amazing yeah it’s amazing it’s amazing and the theater scene as well yeah um for such a small town they have an amazing art scene yeah they really do and so for those of you who are thinking about moving here and you’re like well what do they have here we have a lot i mean we’re from new orleans and we’re used to jazz music you know in the french quarter and i have to say we have not been disappointed here in our little channel that’s right that’s really exciting too about the elks is before they just did the big room or at least i had only been in in the big theater area but people got used to going to the smaller venues so now they book events that are more appropriate for the smaller room they’ll book there and performances that are made for a bigger space downstairs so that they put a jazz series in and it’s been very well entered attended and oh my god it’s been so amazing amazing uh it’s just astounding yeah so it’s a wonderful close-up venue uh so we’ve been doing the jazz series it’s perfect for jazz uh really looking forward to the one next month they’re going to do um the latin the latin style so i’m really looking forward to that so i mean it just it really opened things up a lot so good so if you’re thinking about prescott and wondering what are we all about is this just a little bitty town no you’d be surprised we have some sophisticated entertainment here folks that’s right it’s not all about yielding pickles we don’t have a real problem you know we could play that for you all day long upstairs um but we’ve got some good here can i say that i’ll believe you you’ve been believed i can’t take her anywhere well you know there’s some coffee and you never know what she’s gonna say that’s right anyway we hope to see you at the elks theater get your season passes of Music of Esteban

One of the things that surprised us most about Prescott was the quality of music here, and coming from New Orleans, our standards are pretty high. Of special note is the world-renowned classical guitarist Esteban, who is a local resident and performs locally at the historic Elks Theater. In this episode we recall his most recent appearance and what he has coming up.

hello hello peeps every time you say that it’s right in my ear hello peeps she’s the pickle lady i’m her sidekick we are in prescott arizona we sell real estate among other things we’re bringing you up what it was doing i think restaurants we do a lot of restaurants for you yeah but i don’t get it cuz i don’t get paid for that i don’t get paid for that that’s just pure joy for me yeah sharing every now and then we get a free drink that’s about it not really not really because we don’t do it in a location we should get a lot more than what we do i’ll tell you that much yeah but i i i’m gonna let that go because we just have so much fun talking about uh things here in prescott but here we’re not going to talk about things to eat on this episode we’re going to talk about things to listen to things to listen to something you should know here in prescott great great music scene an amazing music scene oh yeah and coming from new orleans we were like oh sure i’m saying a lot yeah that’s it a lot we’re from new orleans and you’re messed with the music that’s saying a lot we’re pretty impressed because we you know our our bar was pretty high i’m not sure let’s see and we went a couple of times i’m like wow that’s good a lot of good great local talent uh regional town we also get people coming up from phoenix yep all the time you know the the phoenix symphony comes up here and plays in the square they also play at yavapai community college we have a lot of local bands that play all the time on whiskey row that are phenomenal and then there are a lot of great cover bands who also come in play and we go see them at the elks theater one of them it’s not a band it’s one person yeah we’re we’re going to go see the carole king carol king tapestry tapestries the cover band yeah my personal favorite is actually a local resident by the name of esteban i love him i love him so i love him too yeah a world renowned uh guitar player and classically trained right classically trained by segovia segovia a lot of people kind of consider him to be the heir to segovia unbelievable what this guy can do with a guitar and he lives here in prescott so he has retired here yeah he plays only regionally now uh you know california arizona probably vegas yeah uh but he does a hand like two or three four uh concerts a year here right here at the right here else theater in prescott that’s right and we love it we always go one year we went for mother’s day and brought randall’s mom yeah and for me and we went and he plays with his daughter teresa yes who is an amazing violin amazing amazing and he has a great drummer yeah a great drummer the guy’s phenomenal uh at the last concert i think he did a couple of drum solos yeah had me just blown away and his daughter’s an amazing improvisation on a violin oh i don’t know that there’s a lot of people doing that no i mean you know theresa joy is her name so we go and as soon as he starts playing i always start to tear up just it’s just it’s just beautiful to hear a classical guitarist just very moving it’s just it’s just beautiful yeah and he last time we went he played 90 minutes straight because he also talks a lot about his personal life and how he got uh on this path and his journey and that’s that’s a lot of fun yeah very inspirational very inspirational and you know he talks about uh you know his life as a musician and tells stories and he tells him well is always funny he’s always funny so we highly if you’re a musical person uh you’ll love it here you’ll love it it’s a huge variety i think he mentioned in the concert that his son is going to be um i don’t know how permanent or how often that’s going to be that’s right the basis yeah but yes it basis and so uh i look forward to seeing that yeah so he’s going to do another concert april you’re thinking about visiting and you’re here april 9th make sure you check him out yeah grab a ticket just one it’s a wonderful evening and then go have a nice dinner yeah it was really we did it for valentine’s he is a treasure and he like the rest of us here have totally embraced life here in prescott and what prescott represents and uh enough that he retired here yeah that’s right so we take that as a big shot in the arm so thank you esteban and thank you for all your beautiful concerts absolutely they touch our heart all the time we love it yeah he did uh he did a rendition of norwegian wood which is the beatles song that uh they have the sitar that george harrison so he kind of did this sitar thing which i mean no offense to george harrison but oh my god it was amazing it was always a guitar like how did you do that i think it was making sounds he didn’t think a guitar could do but yeah it was uh it was amazing that’s what that’s what that sounds a little weird excuse me that kind of twangy sound that sits do i don’t know how he managed to do that it was cool it was cool anyway so if you’re coming here no you’ll have a thank you for all your support it means the world to us every time you watch every time you watch we get that one click and we love it yeah yeah that’s our that’s our fan base another restaurant today we’re picking up colts colts yeah you know we’ve gotten a lot of feedback from people who say yeah honestly one of our favorites is when you guys talk about restaurants and i’m like wow well we are foodies um we do go out and socialize a lot we have a lot of fun doing it yes we do and so we are happy to share our restaurant videos with you [Music] which means my many friends many friends there you go hopefully so uh yeah so today we’re talking about colts colts is kind of a local chain they have a number of locations i think they started in cottonwood or something i think there’s been a location in prescott valley now for a few years yeah and uh we just i don’t know i make really good ribs yes so we don’t there’s a pretty good yeah so we don’t go out for barbecue all that much usually when we’re in the mood for barbecue i make i make ribs um so we’ve been hitting the barbecue scene some friends called us they wanted to go and we did and it was amazing it was a really good it was amazing um fantastic barbecue but what we’re most excited is colts has now come right into the heart of prescott yes they are yes they are they’re right past uh whiskey road well i they’re clowning they’re still on biscuit that’s right so the whole thing about whiskey row is uh no no one’s quite sure if it’s one block or two yes uh there’s one block that has always been whiskey row and there’s always been a second block where you know we’re we’re a risky road too but it really hasn’t caught on we’re hoping that colts makes kind of tips the scale tips the scale uh and bringing it to that second block so that whiskey row becomes a two black entity it needs to be a two block so much fun such a good time yeah but uh colts is right there on the corner of montezuma and montezuma and goodwood [Music] delicious delicious turkey sausage yeah brisket their brisket is different it’s amazing ribs they have a selection of barbecue sauces oh yeah that’s what i love about them yeah there’s like an apricot sauce that’s really good the traditionals are really good different amounts of heat depending on what you’re looking for bring the heat now bring the heat i like the heat yeah i like a few of them so i like to kind of mix it up a little bit the brisket is outstanding the brisket is and you need to die yeah you have an option of either lean or rich oh yeah yeah what do you think that’s what i have yet to try the lean so for those of you who are being good yeah i don’t know why you may go to colts if you’re going to be good but we know somebody maybe somebody’s forcing you to go to colts and you really want a healthy option so get the lean brisket don’t we go all yeah we do we do so that uh yeah the sausage was good the ribs were good yeah all of it uh the bar is really good they’ve got a number of their own um creations yep um i can’t remember did i have i had a huckleberry huckleberry’s huckleberry something yeah i don’t recall too much because i had several of them uh some kind of bourbon with uh maple or something in there i forget i don’t know it was all good it was good it was all good yeah their their cocktails are really good so if you’re coming here for a visit or if you’re living here uh make sure you try colts either in cottonwood prescott valley or right here on whiskey road it’s a good time and it’s it’s got a nice little atmosphere too yeah yeah we enjoyed the line so shout out to colts we love you and we love that huckleberry oh yeah it’s good good good stuff so give us a call or look us up at pickle411.com are all kinds of restaurant reviews on uh you’ll find there yeah that’s our thing that’s a thing and lots of uh but if you’re looking for events if you’re looking for information about real estate uh it’s all there it’s all free and it’s all we covered them phenomenal we covered all people who do it or just they’re just yeah sometimes you know sometimes people don’t connect with us i’m okay with that most of the time that we have a ball we do we like sharing all of our knowledge that’s right with you yeah about life here that’s euphemism knowledge i’m not sure it’s all just knowledge not not exactly but we try it’s malarkey we try all right nice seeing you today and have a great rest of your day bye
